Bridgeton and Dalmarnock in Glasgow is the first children’s neighbourhood in Scotland.
It was chosen because of the existing work of Thriving Places in the area, to build community capacity and recognise the people power and assets in the neighbourhood.
The area historically has one of the highest levels of socioeconomic disadvantage in Glasgow and in Scotland, and there’s a lot of opportunity to improve a wide range of outcomes for children and young people living in the neighbourhood.
Three local primary schools are grouping together to become the start of the new children’s neighbourhood: Dalmarnock Primary School, Sacred Heart Primary School, and (when it’s finished) the new primary school on Sunnybank Street.
What’s going on right now?
In Bridgeton and Dalmarnock we’re just getting started, so we’re gathering information from local children, young people and families about what they’d like to see happen in their area. At the same time, we’re looking at statistics from the area and matching these up with what people say. We’re also talking with local organisations and groups about their work and their resources.
Below is our timeline for the length of the whole project.
Recently a context paper has been developed for the neighbourhood, which brings together a recent timeline for the area, investments, an overview of our partners, and other local initiatives. There is also some data from the schools in the area and statistics from Understanding Glasgow.
