Children’s Neighbourhoods Scotland (CNS) works closely with children and young people and their families, as well as local public and third sector organisations, in order to support efforts and services which reduce poverty, increase participation within communities, and help tackle the issues currently making it difficult for children and young people to live happy and healthy lives.
We are currently based in six neighbourhood sites across Scotland. We work in the urban communities of Bridgeton and Dalmarnock, Castlemilk and Drumchapel in Glasgow city, Radnor Park in Clydebank in West Dunbartonshire, and the rural community or Rigside, and the small town of Lanark in South Lanarkshire.
We wish to see a world in which no child grows up facing inequality, disadvantage or living in poverty.
We use a holistic, climate aware and place-based community-led approach. Driven by the voices and views of children and young people, local people and professionals.
We listen to, work with, and empower children and young people to have their voices heard. Enabling them to contribute and shape their community and have a say in matters that affect them and their life chances.
We will support local partnerships and collaboration between organisations and services to enable change across the range of contexts, in which young people play, learn and grow; valuing enjoying and protecting our environment.
These values underpin our work at Children’s Neighbourhoods Scotland. They guide our ways of working, our research and our activity at every step.
We work with honesty, openness and are transparent in our actions and decisions. We share our thinking and learning and are committed to improving life opportunities and chances for all children and young people.
We prioritise children and young people whose lives are impacted by poverty.
We are committed to understanding and influencing the contexts in which children and young people live and grow up in, while being led by research and evidence in our actions.
We are inclusive, and committed to working in true partnership with children, young people, their families and all our partners. We value the unique contribution of all who work with us.
- Action orientated
We hold the voices of children and young people at the heart of everything we do, challenging ourselves and others to really listen, and do what needs to be done for lasting change.
We are ambitious for all children and young people, and our planet. We are passionate about change through active involvement, participation and working innovatively to get the best outcomes for children and young people and our planet.
